Product Description

William John Caparne (1856-1940)

Flower Study, Thelocactus Hexaedrophous

Pastel on tinted chalk paper, 180 x 262 mm, with original protective tissue attached.

Inscribed in pastel THELOCACTUS / HEXAEDROPHORUS

Signed with initials, lower right. Label verso for A Wheaton & Co. Exeter

The paper is a little ragged and the bottom right corner was torn, presumably before Caparne wrote the title, which makes allowance for this.

A study showing two specimens of Thelocactus, one of the series of cacti and succulents which Caparne was studying and propagating in the 1930s in his greenhouses at Bon Port in southern Guernsey. For more about William John Caparne and his work, see our post here
