Product Description
Amulet Box
Tibet
Yak bone, with copper, gilt and white metal, set with coral and turquoise. Lined with velvet.
24.2 x 24.5 (max width) x 5.3 cms
This is an unusually large and fine box with a hinged cover and projecting lugs for a carrying strap. The carefully constructed yak bone cladding is a fine example of Tibetan work. Probably intended to hold tsakli or prayer cards, the box dates to the first half of the 20th century, and has been re-lined in a synthetic velvet.
