Robbie Wraith is one of the UK’s leading portrait artists, as well as one of its most accomplished exponents of traditional drawing and painting. Trained in Florence as a pupil of Pietro Annigoni, he developed an extraordinary breadth of drawing style, ranging from a bold, bravura use of charcoal to pencil drawing of great subtlety and delicacy – as in our portrait study. His technical mastery and sensitive approach to his subjects has brought considerable success. A member of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters, he has work in public and private collections throughout the world. His sitters have included H M the Queen, Nelson Mandela and Prince Charles, who holds an extensive collection of Wraith’s work.
