Product Description
James Fry (British, 1911-1985), Winspit, Dorset
oil on board, 255 mm x 358 mm
Signed bottom right. Verso inscribed MAN-O-WAR BAY/ JAMES FRY
A fine, sound image in good condition. There are two minor areas of paint loss in the sky in the upper left quarter (see detail), which, in our opinion, do not detract from the quality of the work. Unframed.
This is a fine and boldly painted view of a celebrated cove on the Dorset coast, between the headland of Durdle Door and St Oswald’s Bay, the paint applied with both brush and palette knife.
James Fry was a dedicated painter of the landscapes and coast of his native Dorset, regularly returning to the rugged beauty of the Jurassic coast.
