‘Rescued by Rover’ – a dramatic tale of kidnap and rescue – was a huge commercial success for Cecil Hepworth’s production company, and was one of the most popular films of the first decade of the century. It starred the Hepworth family en masse -with Cecil Hepworth and his wife, Margaret, as ‘Father’ and ‘Mother’ and their baby daughter Barbara as ‘The Baby’. It also introduced the world to Blair – one of the very first animal film stars, who went on to feature in 5 more films for Cecil Hepworth, as well as having a minor part as ‘dog’ in Alice in Wonderland of 1903.
