Product Description
Rosewater Bottle and stopper (Serai)
Gilt copper and enamel, embossed and chased
India, Kashmir c.1890
Ht: 20.3 cms, 8 ins
A richly decorative piece. The gilding is worn at the neck and around the body, and the bottle lacks the chain linking stopper and body but the overall condition is excellent.
Although a traditional form, this piece is typical of the kind of Indian craft metalwork imported in significant quantities into Britain, being retailed by shops such as Liberty’s and exhibited in the international exhibitions of the ‘industrial arts’ in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
