Halima Nalecz (1917-2008)
Evening Chat, ink on paper with scratching out and applied materials
76.0 x 55.5 cms
Signed and dated Nalecz 65, bottom right
Drian Gallery label on the backboard
This is a freely worked piece by the Polish-born artist Nalecz in a typical style, exploring boundaries between naturalism and abstraction. Here, two eccentric birds, one distinctly hoopoe-like, engage in apparently learned conversation, while another takes flight amid richly textured white flower-heads. The muted colours and sense of weighted physicality call to mind a quiet evening-time.
The frame is original and undamaged but very weak. We would anticipate de-framing prior to despatch of this item, retaining the backboard only.
