A member of the Hague School, Bosboom is best known for his depiction of town scenes and church interiors. He travelled and worked in Germany and France, but returned to his birthplace in the Hague, where he continued to work until his death. His set-piece paintings are strongly influenced by Dutch art of the 17th century. However, this oil sketch shows his work at its freest, most painterly and experimental.
His work is held in major public collections around the world.
